People from the past believed that in the 21st century we
would have solved world hunger, debts and diseases.
Instead, we find ourselves reading again and again about the multiple conflicts that affect the
world.
The irony is that we choose what to talk about and what not:
we unfortunately differentiate between first-page conflicts, those happening near
and that in some way affects us, and less important ones.
The truth is that the entire world is suffering, and we are here to
narrate with transparency.
To start, we display the amount of armed conflicts that are happening in the world
up until the first days of 2026.
We compare three wars that are happening as of now:
The Russo-Ukranian War, The Israeli-Palestinian War, The Drug War against the
South American Cartel.
Let's take a look at the statistics of Google Trends, to understand where the world's interest
is directed towards: the platform every year collects data on how much the world searches for a
specific term or topic on the internet.
We propose a view in both time and space perspective up until 2025.
By looking at the trends, it's easily understandable how the conflict which is more of interest is the
Russo-Ukranian War:
as a West centered world, this European conflict is affecting us directly.
The Middle Eastern Conflict is still relevant, but less talked about, as it seems more out of reach.
Lastly, Drug War is basically never searched for, not even inside the countries that are directly
affected by it.
In the next pages of this paper, we will take a deeper look into these three topics, following the
events that made them relevant or irrelevant.
